So I developed this urge to start sharing my work,
passion and interests via a blog. “Boho
Emporium” was a title which initially sprang to mind. I figured it pretty much sums up what I’m all
about – Art, Jewelry and Fashion (done so in a rather bohemian kind of
way). To my dismay, however, I
discovered that when you have to cram up all the letters into a one-word blog
title, it just appears rather awkward and confusing. I mean what’s a “bohoem” and what’s a “porium”
?
So the challenge was on. I had to come up with an adequate blog title
meeting the following requirements :-
- It
shouldn’t look awkward and confusing as a one-word blog title;
- It
should sum up what my work, passion and interests are, being MAINLY art
(especially abstract art) and beaded jewelry…
So some titles (and blog descriptions) emerged, and
boy, was it tricky!
Let me explain some of them :-
Blog title – Clover Days
Blog description – When life hands you a clover, DON’T
count its leaves.
I figured it may be
self-explanatory (or not)…
Blog title – Cupchainreaction
Blog description – (haven’t thought so far)
Although I do use
cupchain in my jewelry designs, I don’t use it in ALL of them. Besides, the art part is not mentioned in the
title. It just seemed incomplete.
Blog title – Brick and Bone
Blog description – (haven’t
thought so far)
This is one of
those classical examples where the essence of a thing is stripped down to its
bare origins in order to come up with a name/title. For instance – you put art on walls and walls
consist of bricks. You wear jewelry on
you body and your skeleton is bone – Brick and Bone, get it? To my surprise I discovered that this
name/title is pretty common on the internet already. So I had to ditch that one…
Blog title – Want the same thing
Blog description – Desire causes creativity – creation
cause desire!
Yes, like that
Belinda Carlisle song. I was seriously
considering this one for quite a while, but in the end I could never really
FEEL it resonating on the level I wanted…
Eventually I came up with “Splashconnect”, which is ideal because I believe it pretty
much says what I mean to say (for my blog title that is). Splash – no doubt the art part (especially
abstract art) and anybody who knows anything about beading will grasp the
“connect” part. Using beads to construct
a piece is literally like connecting the dots – even if the “dots” are
beads. From a different point of view
the “splash” may also signify the actual act of creation (or just living the
creative life), whilst “connect” may denote the fact that I choose to share
what I learn and do (via a blog in this instance), hopefully connecting with
more like minded individuals out there who share the same kind of interests I
do.
At the end of the day, the best we can do is to show
up for our art (or whichever creative pursuit) and splash, or squirt, or
squeeze whatever is splashable, or squirtable, or squeezable for that given
day. We can’t always control the quality
nor the quantity of our daily pursuits, but at least (hopefully) some of those splashes,
squirts and squeezes all mashed together may “connect” and end up in something
marvellous after all!
