Yet again I’m
drawn to botanical-style contemporary paintings, this time by artist Meredith Pardue, based in Austin, Texas. Despite
the organic appearance of the random “leafy”- and/or “tumble stone” structures,
the seemingly negative spaces in between lend an almost ghostly- but fresh
modern feel to the work. Upon closer
gaze one notices that these paintings are much more alive than they may appear
at first glance, for it reveals a process of intuitive experimentation in
colour and harmony… partly enveloped by calm ethereal glazes of what are
discarded as spare, but not quite so bare.

Elie Saab - Fall 2016 Couture - Florals & Flocks
One designer who never disappoints in couture is no doubt Elie Saab. His Fall 2016 Couture collection embodies exactly that - avant garde, sculptural, layered and more than enough glitter and sparkle everywhere to satisfy even the most glutenous magpies around! Again, these are just the close-ups - the entire collection can be seen here. Enjoy!

Willem de Kooning (1904 - 1997) - Abstract Expressionist - Action Painter
When I first discovered the paintings done by Willem de Kooning, I immediately felt that sense of familiarity again... His swift brush strokes, expressive use of bold and muted colours and the composition of seemingly unfamiliar objects - like, like and like! These are just some of my personal favourite paintings of his. Even though his painting style may appear swift (also dubbed "action painting"), a busy man he was indeed, since there are many many more paintings done by him.
